Atawhai
Business support for creative thinkers
Atawhai helps people get their businesses off the ground. She’s the thinking, the motivation and the connection. She finds the suppliers, keeps founders moving and links the people and pieces that make a start-up work. She works best with other neurodivergent founders in that messy, exciting first stage.
She also runs a tattoo studio called Brother Tip Tattoo and created the Atawhai ADHD Planner. She mentors youth, gives back to her community and facilitates change.
She also has a clothing line and a bag on the way.
She had never had a brand. The work was real – the brand just needed to catch up with her incredible story.
The Story
Atawhai became a mum at 14. She decided she’d make the best of her life, and she hustled.
She has started plenty of businesses and failed at a few. Her ADHD brain works in ideas, not straight lines, and she turned that into her strength. What she knows, she learned by doing.
She describes herself as the auntie from the film Boy: connected to everyone, wears many hats, at the centre of a very big web.
That’s brilliant for the people around her. It’s a hard thing to put on a logo sheet.
She came to me wanting people to take her business support seriously. The challenge was one identity that could hold mentoring, a planner, clothing, a bag and whatever came next, and still sound like her.
Holding the web together
The hardest part wasn’t the brief itself – it was making sure it could encompass her impressive empire as a whole. Atawhai isn’t one thing. Every strand she follows as an entrepreneur needed to belong to the same brand without feeling scattered or watered down.
The answer was to build around the person, not the product. When the brand is her, everything she connects to belongs to it.
Two moves held it together. The identity looks credible enough for a serious business mentor. It also stays warm and personal, so no one forgets there’s a real woman at the centre.
The Transformation
An Earthy, Grounded Palette
Warm, natural tones settle the page. It’s a brand for busy minds, so the colour does the calming: steady, grounded and easy to sit with, from planner covers to a screen.
Custom Typography With Māori Influence
The lettering is custom-drawn, with curved forms and koru-style terminals that echo her heritage without being literal. It makes the wordmark hers.
A System Built to Stretch
Every new strand, whether a product, a service or a partnership, plugs into an identity people already recognise.
Key Benefits
Instant Credibility
A founder with real expertise now looks like it. People take her business support seriously from the first touchpoint.
Everything Connected
Mentoring, products and services read as one world instead of a list of side projects.
Rooted in Identity
Māori-influenced type keep the brand personal and unmistakably hers.
Ready for Growth
Built for where she’s going, not just where she is. The system already holds the planner, her products and a live website built by another designer, which proves it holds up in someone else’s hands.
